About Us |
The Geek Chic Boutique opened December 2008 as a little boutique in the quaint and cozy downtown area of Fredericton, NB, Canada.
We had heard a rumor that geeks were now "chic". So we shyly emerged from the safe haven of our monitor-lit computer rooms to start the store of our dreams...the geekiest store in Canada.
A place where geeks can shop for gadgets, office toys, DIY projects, apparel, accessories, award winning board games (you know...for when the server is down).

Who are we?
Florence
Since the age of five, I've been a gamer. Starting with my original Nintendo console, grew up playing King's Quest on my PC (wow, that was a long time ago), and loved strategy style board games. Always on a quest to find the ultimate game.
I'm also a big computer geek, constantly modifying my system and learning to use new programs which has lead me to becoming a huge fan of Linux and Open Source software.
Favorite celebrities - Linus Torvalds and Richard Stallman of course.

What was i doing?
Oh right.. about me.
I was avoiding this because it will be boring.
I previously existed as a code monkey, a small cog in the mega machine of corporate web development. I moved on to project manager - then something else officy and now I am here.
Cody
I'm a programmer at heart, I love to find quick and simple ways to accomplish repetitive tasks quickly and efficiently. My language of choice: Python, why? To put it simply it is the most powerful language that requires the least amount of work to compile. I've been tinkering around with coding since i was in grade 8 (which seems like eons ago); the idea of transforming simple human language into a complex series of signals that can give a machine instructions to execute perfectly always had a strange allure to my sense of creationism... or what ever you want to call it.
I found my way here after pestering Florence for several weeks asking her if she was hiring or needed someone to look after the place for a bit. She eventually caved (showing once and for all, if you want a job bad enough, go after it) in and let me watch the store for a weekend. With only a few 'minor' mishaps i eventually received my position here and couldn't be happier :)
Feel free to come down and ask me a logical programming question, I love to talk to people about that kind of stuff. Just ask my friend Shawn about my minesweeper script (lets just say its 3000 lines of pure brute forcing terror that took a year of my life away).

Sales and Promotions
He is always planning a CRAZY promotion. He is known to be stable, secure, and follows several commands (as long as you can identify yourself as root).
He is even compatible with cats.
